Most people looking for a website or working from home dont have the foggiest ideas about all the scams that are around. The biggest scam now is webhosts. For those that dont know a webhost is the place where a super computer is kept that holds peoples websites. You can actually turn your computer into a mini super computer and host your own website its not that difficult at all you just have to pay someone to teach you all the ropes and what you need as well as a price. In fact most real business host their own site. Becuase of the Scam hosts. I work with some pretty good hosts but i have had bad ones. The scams i noticed most when i was with the bad ones are many but usually starts out like this. This is scenario how a host can totally rip off a good business
1. First you go to the host and they offer domains names. You check to see if yourname.com is available. It is. Rather then buy it then you wait. When you come back to buy it the host has bought it already put the name under a new identity and now is selling it for 5,ooo.00 when you could have bought it for 10 dollars. Yes 5k they are selling it for. You were burned royally
2. You put up your site and your host noticed or its employees notice your site and and try to get indexed before you do. This is really the most vicious scam becaue someone looks at your site sand decides they can make thousands off of you. And Thus they start stalking you attacking you and spamming you in order to take what you have built up. When you call them they are very rude
and u realize that you are being extorted. Yes people can you say extortion. Many hosts do this in order to black mail. Their ultimate goal is to kill you and steal what you have built up. If you site is really making money then they will literally try to kill you softly.
3. Your weblogs is your money. Not blog but web log. This refers to a program that tells you where your visitors came from and what they typed in to reach your site. This informatin is valuable and hosts will hide this info and use it to kill your business. This is why its best to stay away from cheap hosting they will just deny you access to your own logs. And u will not know where your traffic is coming from and soon u will not have any traffic and all y0our earnings will now belong to your webhost. Yet they still expect you to pay them for service. Most if not all webhosts and their employees are out to destory your business if it becomes to popular. This may not be true in all cases and maybe their might be good hosts but its best not to trust any of them. Even the big ones because their employees can go home after work and start spamming you if they are really bold which many are. I recently had one spend a large amount of money in order to put me out of business yet i have to pay them at the end of hte month for service.
4. The best thing is to host your own servor. Dont trust anyone. Everyone likes money. And your need for hosting and inability to provide it for yourself is a opportunity for any host. Hosts dont make money from hosting so they have to scam to pay the bills. Basically scam their customers. Most if not all sites that are successful do their own hosting. Sites that dont rarely make a penny unless they pay alot to have the site updated. What options do you have. U really dont have any options. if u are looking to make money off the internet. But if you have your website just on your business cards just for show and tell you may be ok. But your site may one day start making money and your host will see your rise in traffic and seek to steal it by any means necesarry.
5. Stealing traffic. If you site is making money from the beginning sometimes the host will steal it all by stealing your traffic. With a dns hack the people going to your site will not be on your site but a site just like yours. They are stealing all of your money.
Host get offened when you accuse them because they know you can not proove what they are doing they could be at home sitting in their pajamams robbing you blind but you cant see what they are doing so how can you proove anything.
Stay away from free hosts if get a host I would go with register.com and pay the top dollar and ask them and just pray that when you need technical support and that they have to open your account and see your domains that they dont try to secretly attack you or register similar names in an effort to steal your traffic and income.
I think sooner or later that once the lid is blown off and small businesses realize how vulneralbe they are that hosting will be handled in the church where there is a sense of trust where businesses can feel secure and trust abounds. I think this is the only option we have today to keep your pockets from getting picked. Other wise God only knows what these people have up their sleeves.
Read the contract before you sign up with a host they sometimes will tell you that they have right to exploit you and make money off your ideas Stay away from these. Even if you dont have time and are anxious just print out the contract. And even if u decide to use the service read the contract again it will most always be changed because they will know yuou printed it as well as took time to read it so they will try to scam you with a new contract reworded.

Write your congressman about hosts the best way to stop the scam hosts and domain names registrars is
1. Pass laws to forbid domain name registrars from having any knowledge of what is being registerd. They dont need to know what name you registerd. If they do they can hurt you and often will by buying names you would have bought later. and to many things to mention.
2. Establish a basic standard for webhosting sites like my space should be banned becaue the human mind cant connect the dots. A free service yet the average citizens does not know how thousands can be made off of them. If you used a free service and the free service made 10k a year by what you are doing would you not want that money ? But if u dont know how or that they ever are making that money how would you know. This is exploitatoin and all these freebiees with catches should all be banned so that the american people are not exploited. Regardless of contracts. Its obvious that people want freebiess and dont even read contracts. So people are signing contracts that they dont have any konwledge of its like fish biting a hook cause they see the free meat but dont see the hook that will kill them.
